Lotito Boosts Motivation With Additional €2M Reward To Drive Lazio Deeper Into Europa League
The Europa League is set to resume with its quarter-final stage on April 10, as the remaining eight teams battle for a coveted spot in the semifinals—and ultimately, the chance to lift the trophy. Among them is Lazio, who topped their group with an impressive record of six wins, one draw, and just one loss during the first phase of the competition. Despite a tough Round of 16 encounter against Viktoria Plzen, the Biancoceleste prevailed and are now preparing to take on Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt.
The upcoming two-legged tie on April 10 and 17 carries significant weight for Lazio. A win wouldn’t just be a statement of their strength, but would also mark a milestone for the current club leadership. Since Claudio Lotito took over in 2009, Lazio have participated in the Europa League 11 times, but have never gone beyond the quarter-finals. Reaching the semifinals would be a historic achievement under the current management.
In financial terms, qualifying for the semifinals would bring in an additional €4.2 million, adding to the €12 million already earned from their European campaign so far. Recognizing the value of success on the continental stage, President Lotito has raised the stakes further. In addition to the €2.5 million bonus promised for Champions League qualification, he has now reportedly added another €2 million reward for progress in the final stages of the Europa League, according to Il Messaggero.
Lazio must first overcome Bodø/Glimt, and could then face either Eintracht Frankfurt or Tottenham in the semifinals before a potential final in Bilbao. With everything now depending on their performance, the team is fully aware of what’s at stake—both in glory and in reward.
