[Serie A] Bologna - Lazio = 5 - 0

Lazio endured a tough night in the 29th week of Serie A 2024/25 as they suffered a 5-0 defeat against Bologna at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium on Sunday (17/3). The Biancoceleste were unable to withstand Bologna’s relentless attacks, with goals from Jens Odgaard, Riccardo Orsolini, Dan Ndoye, Santiago Castro, and Giovanni Fabbian sealing a comprehensive victory for the hosts.

This result saw Lazio drop to sixth place in the standings with 51 points, as Bologna climbed to fourth with 53 points, strengthening their position in the race for European competition next season.

Right from kickoff, Bologna dictated the tempo, applying constant pressure on Lazio’s defense. Their persistence paid off in the 16th minute when Juan Miranda delivered a pinpoint cross, which Jens Odgaard finished clinically to open the scoring.

Lazio struggled to find a response, and while goalkeeper Ivan Provedel managed to deny a powerful effort from Orsolini, the visitors remained under heavy pressure.

After the break, Bologna wasted no time extending their lead. Just three minutes into the second half, Dan Ndoye provided a precise through ball for Orsolini, who slotted it past Provedel to make it 2-0 in the 48th minute.

Lazio barely had time to recover before Bologna struck again. In the 49th minute, Ndoye turned from provider to goalscorer, finishing a pass from Lewis Ferguson to put the home team 3-0 up in the span of two minutes.

Lazio attempted to respond, with Mattia Zaccagni coming close to reducing the deficit, but his shot was denied by the post. Instead of mounting a comeback, the Biancoceleste found themselves further punished as Santiago Castro capitalized on a defensive error in the 74th minute to make it 4-0.

As the match neared its conclusion, Bologna added a fifth goal through Giovanni Fabbian, who met Miranda’s cross with a well-placed header in the 84th minute, sealing one of Lazio’s heaviest defeat of the season.

Lazio’s disappointing result serves as a wake-up call as they battle to maintain their European qualification hopes. With key fixtures ahead, the Biancoceleste must quickly regroup and find their form if they want to stay in the race for a top-four finish.

Meanwhile, Bologna’s commanding victory solidifies their ambitions for a spot in European competition next season, while Lazio must use this setback as motivation to bounce back in the remaining matches of the campaign.
