Pellegrini Set To Replace Patric On Lazio’s Serie A Roster Following Defender’s Surgery

Lazio defender Patric has confirmed his season is over after electing to undergo surgery on the right ankle injury sustained against Como on October 31. Despite briefly returning for February’s Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen, persistent pain and instability forced the Spanish centre‑back to opt for surgery, sidelining him until next year.

Patric’s absence leaves a vacancy on Lazio’s Serie A roster. According to Il Messaggero, full‑back Luca Pellegrini — previously excluded from the squad for disciplinary reasons — is set to be reinstated before the March 31 registration deadline, taking Patric’s spot on the domestic list. His return bolsters Marco Baroni’s squad as they chase a top‑four finish.

In European competition, Lazio now have only three centre‑backs available — Alessio Romagnoli, Mario Gila and Samuel Gigot — since new signing Oliver Provstgaard was not included on the submitted UEFA list and therefore remains ineligible for upcoming Europa League ties. However, with Serie A roster spots freed by Patric’s absence, Provstgaard is poised to make his Biancoceleste debut in domestic action, offering fresh defensive depth for the season’s run‑in.
