[Official] Candreva Announced His Retirement At Age 38

Antonio Candreva, who previously played for top Italian clubs including Inter, Lazio, Sampdoria, and the national team, has officially retired from football at the age of 38. The versatile attacking midfielder, who turned 38 last month, had been without a club since his contract with Salernitana ended in July 2024. He spent several seasons with Lazio, where he lifted the Coppa Italia trophy.

Candreva shared his retirement news through a video message on his social media accounts, saying:

“Hello football, today marks one of the most meaningful days of my life. It’s time to say goodbye. Here at San Siro — football’s sacred ground — I played my final match.

“My journey with this sport began here 30 years ago, filled with highs and lows, dedication, victories, and countless emotions.

“I’ve lived my dream and followed my passion. This isn’t a goodbye, but rather a new beginning. Thank you, football. Until we meet again.”

Known for his flair and long-range goals, Candreva made 502 appearances in Serie A, scoring 85 goals and delivering 100 assists. Throughout his career, he featured for clubs such as Udinese, Juventus, Lazio, Inter, Sampdoria, and Salernitana. He earned 54 caps with Italy’s senior national team, scoring seven goals and assisting 13. The highlight of his club career was winning the 2012–13 Coppa Italia with Lazio — the only major trophy he lifted during his playing days.
