Marco Di Cesare Emerges As Lazio’s Defensive Target For Summer Transfer Window

Lazio have begun planning a major overhaul of their defence ahead of the summer transfer window, as persistent frailties at the back have undermined their campaign. Club executives will first address the uncertain future of 24‑year‑old centre‑back Mario Gila, whose impressive form has attracted interest from across Europe. A decision on Gila’s status is expected before Lazio turn their full attention to bolstering the rest of their rearguard.

Meanwhile, veteran defender Patric remains under evaluation after a season hampered by fitness issues and inconsistent performances. With the Spaniard yet to offer the reliability expected of a senior figure, Lazio’s sporting department will assess whether he fits into the club’s long‑term plans.

Lazio have already taken steps towards rejuvenation: in January they secured the signing of 20‑year‑old Danish centre‑back Oliver Provstgaard from Vejle. Now, according to Argentine outlet El Crack Deportivo, the club are tracking Racing Club’s 22‑year‑old defender Marco Di Cesare. Di Cesare, who has featured nine times and scored once in the current Argentine Primera División campaign, boasts a €13 million release clause in his contract that runs until December 2027.

Sporting director Angelo Fabiani is expected to prioritise a left‑footed centre‑back and a versatile defensive midfielder as part of Lazio’s broader recruitment strategy. With Europe’s top clubs circling key assets, the Biancoceleste face a pivotal summer in reshaping a defence that must tighten up if they are to challenge on multiple fronts next season.
