Fabiani: "Baroni’s Future Is Not Up For Discussion. I Firmly Believe This Club Is On The Right Path And Has The Potential To Achieve Great Things In The Coming Years."
Lazio’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, has reassured that Marco Baroni’s position as head coach remains secure, dismissing any speculation about his future despite the team’s crushing 5-0 defeat against Bologna last weekend.
Lazio have been exceeding expectations this season, finishing top of their Europa League group and advancing to the quarter-finals, where they will take on Bodo/Glimt. They are also pushing for a top-four finish in Serie A. However, the humiliating loss to Bologna has raised doubts over Baroni’s long-term prospects.
“I want to make it clear right away—Baroni’s future is not up for discussion,” Fabiani stated in an interview with Radio Radio.
“Marco is part of a long-term project that began nearly a year ago, and it doesn’t just end after seven months. Of course, conceding five goals without scoring is painful, which is why the club and management need to step in and address the situation.
“We need to work harder and not overlook the progress we’ve made so far.”
The defeat to Bologna saw Lazio slip from fifth to sixth place in Serie A. However, this isn’t the first time they’ve suffered back-to-back losses, having been thrashed 6-0 by Inter in December and then falling 2-0 to Roma in January.
Fabiani also expressed confidence in Baroni’s leadership, emphasizing his pursuit of excellence.
“I know that Baroni is a coach and a person who strives for perfection,” he added.
“We remain satisfied and will keep moving forward. The winning mentality was missing in Bologna, but that’s not the coach’s fault. I firmly believe this club is on the right path and has the potential to achieve great things in the coming years.
“Baroni is someone I’ve known for a long time, and I’m not surprised by his work. After all, I was the one who gave him his first coaching opportunity at Ancona.”
