Baroni: "This Win Was Well-Earned. When I Say We Are A Good Team, We Have To Prove We Are A Great Team. With The Number Of Chances We Had, We Should Have Scored More Than One Goal."
Lazio coach Marco Baroni insisted that his team fully deserved their 2-1 victory over AC Milan, even though the decisive goal came from Pedro’s late penalty at San Siro on Sunday (02/03).
The Biancoceleste entered the match under pressure, having been eliminated from the Coppa Italia quarter-finals by Inter earlier in the week and coming off consecutive draws against Napoli and Venezia.
Lazio took the lead through Mattia Zaccagni, but despite Milan being reduced to 10 men after Strahinja Pavlovic’s red card in the 67th minute, the hosts managed to equalize with Samuel Chukwueze’s header.
The match remained tense until the dying moments when VAR reviewed a foul by Mike Maignan on Gustav Isaksen, leading to Pedro’s penalty conversion in the 98th minute.
"When I say we are a good team, we have to prove we are a great team. The players did that, game after game, showing their character," Baroni told DAZN.
"We had 20 shots on goal, so we need to improve in maturity, confidence, and determination. This win was well-earned. Perhaps our only mistake was thinking we could ease off when Milan went down to 10 men, but that’s not our style—we have to keep playing."
Baroni emphasized the importance of controlling the game better in key moments. "We should have managed the tempo more effectively. With the number of chances we had, we should have scored more than one goal. But the team must always be aggressive and positive—that’s what leads to results."
