Luca Pellegrini Eyes Coppa Italia Redemption As He Fights For Lazio Comeback
Lazio full-back Luca Pellegrini is reportedly eager to prove his value in the upcoming Coppa Italia match against Inter Milan. The Italian defender has been excluded from Marco Baroni's selections for Serie A and the Europa League, leaving the domestic cup as his only opportunity for game time. Determined to earn his place, he has been putting in extra effort during training.
The 25-year-old was a regular in Lazio’s starting lineup during the first half of the season but was unexpectedly dropped from both the Serie A and Europa League squads in the latter half. Baroni justified the decision by pointing to Pellegrini’s lack of commitment in training.
However, according to Il Messaggero, the defender has been giving his all in recent training sessions in an attempt to regain his standing with the Biancoceleste. With his participation limited to the Coppa Italia, the quarter-final clash against Inter Milan presents a crucial chance for the Juventus loanee to showcase his abilities.
Pellegrini’s inclusion could be beneficial for Baroni, especially with Elseid Hysaj still sidelined due to injury. Nuno Tavares remains the only available left-back for Serie A and Europa League matches, increasing the likelihood of Pellegrini featuring in Tuesday’s game. This could also be an important decision for the team, with a crucial league encounter against Milan at San Siro on March 2.
Meanwhile, discussions have reportedly taken place between the club's management and Pellegrini’s representatives regarding his future. Baroni retains the option to modify the Serie A squad list, meaning a potential recall for the defender remains on the table.
