Lazio Intend To Renew Contracts For Their Trio Of Backup Players
Lazio are set to offer veteran winger Pedro Rodriguez a new contract, as the 37-year-old continues to shine on the pitch. The Spanish international recently scored two goals in his team's 5-1 victory over Monza last Sunday.
Pedro's journey at the Stadio Olimpico began when he joined Roma in the summer of 2020. However, after just one season with the Giallorossi, he made the switch to their city rivals, Lazio, where he quickly became a favorite among fans. Despite his age and his previous spells at Barcelona and Chelsea, he remains a key member of Marco Baroni's squad, even if he's not always in the starting lineup. This season, he has tallied nine goals and four assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio intends to keep Pedro at the club beyond this season by extending his contract, which is due to expire in June. The Rome-based newspaper highlighted that the club's management still sees the Spaniard as a crucial figure both on the field and in the locker room.
In addition, La Repubblica reported that Lazio is close to finalizing new deals with Adam Marusic and Christos Mandas. Similar to Pedro, the Montenegrin full-back Marusic is in the final year of his contract but remains vital for Baroni, especially with his versatility in covering both wing-back positions – he even opened the scoring against Monza last Sunday. Meanwhile, Mandas, who joined Lazio in the summer of 2023 and currently serves as a backup to Ivan Provedel, is viewed as the club's future goalkeeper. The 23-year-old Greek player, who is currently the lowest paid at the club, is expected to receive a salary increase alongside his new contract.
