At the unveiling of Lazio’s three new winter signings, sporting director Angelo Fabiani took time to answer questions from the press, shedding light on several key topics.

Champions League Hopes and a New Cycle

Fabiani stressed that Lazio is entering a new long-term phase—one that should be evaluated over at least three years. Although other clubs have made big moves in the transfer market, he believes that Lazio’s measured approach, including the recent signings, is already paying off. "Our focus is on building a solid team for the future," he said.

Negotiations and Financial Strategy

Fabiani described the transfer market as a high-stakes game of poker. "There are many tactics and bluffs involved," he said, referring to the negotiations for both Belahyane and Provstgaard. For Ibrahimovic, the club opted for a loan deal with an option to buy, avoiding a counter-redemption clause that wouldn’t have benefited them.

Scouting and Signing Provstgaard

Fabiani recalled watching Provstgaard live on August 25 during a Superleague match. "We had already been following him through scouting, but seeing him in person confirmed our positive impressions," he explained. Despite a few unexpected twists in the negotiation, the deal was nearly complete once all parties were on board.

Team Selection and Tactical Choices

On the topic of Pellegrini’s exclusion from the current registration lists, Fabiani explained that the decision was a carefully considered one by the coach and fully supported by the club. He added that such choices are part of a broader strategy to maintain a balanced and competitive squad.

The Pellegrini Puzzle

When asked about Pellegrini’s potential move to Besiktas via Juventus, Fabiani described the situation as “extremely complex.” He noted that, while the idea is to have Juventus sell him permanently to Besiktas, the club hasn’t received any formal offers yet.

Young Talent and Contract Renewals

Addressing concerns about young players Noslin and Tchaouna, Fabiani noted that while they are still developing, they have already contributed to the team’s efforts. Regarding renewals, he mentioned that keeping experienced players like 37-year-old Pedro on board is important, and that other players such as Mandas and Marusic are also being looked at for contract extensions.

Looking Ahead

When asked about the importance of the Champions League, Fabiani remained cautious. "I focus on each match, knowing that every opponent in Serie A can be a tough challenge," he remarked. He also praised coach Baroni’s approach to rotations and tactical flexibility, emphasizing that team harmony and consistency remain the top priorities.

Fabiani’s insights reflect the club are carefully balancing short-term challenges with long-term ambitions, aiming to build a team that not only competes in Serie A but also makes a mark in European competitions.
