[Serie A] Roma - Lazio = 2 - 0

AS Roma triumphed over Lazio in a fiercely contested Serie A 2024/2025 derby, securing a 2-0 victory. The intense clash unfolded at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, on Sunday night local time (5/1/2025). The Capital Wolves established their dominance within the first 20 minutes.

Lorenzo Pellegrini opened the scoring in the 10th minute, firing a powerful shot from inside the box after receiving a cross from Alexis Saelemaekers. Saelemaekers then doubled Roma’s advantage by finishing off a swift counterattack.

Lazio struggled to recover from the two-goal deficit. Marco Baroni's side managed only a few chances, none of which posed a significant threat. The first half ended with Roma firmly in control.

In the second half, Lazio made adjustments to their attack, introducing two fresh players to invigorate their forward line. Opportunities arose through Matteo Guendouzi, Alessio Romagnoli, and Nicolo Rovella, but AS Roma’s defense held firm.

Despite Lazio's persistent pressure in the second half, Roma made tactical changes to maintain their advantage. The tension escalated in injury time when Mats Hummels fouled Valentin Castellanos. Castellanos reacted emotionally, sparking a touchline altercation that led to his dismissal with a red card.

The match concluded with Roma holding onto their 2-0 lead. The victory lifted them to 10th place in the Serie A standings with 23 points from 19 matches, while Lazio remained in 4th place with 35 points from the same number of games.
