[Serie A] Hellas Verona - Lazio = 0 - 3
Lazio finally shook off their early 2025 slump with a decisive 3-0 triumph over bottom-of-the-table Hellas Verona in Serie A.
It’s been a rocky start to the new year for the Aquile, who kicked things off by falling to city rivals AS Roma, then followed that up with a disappointing draw against struggling Como. Off the field, the club found itself mired in an unexpected scandal: Lazio were forced to sack their eagle handler—of all people—when he inexplicably posted a revealing photo of himself on social media.
But on their visit to Verona, Lazio wasted no time in putting the drama behind them. After just two minutes, Samuel Gigot put them in front with a confident header that soared past the goalkeeper. The advantage doubled in the 21st minute when Boulaye Dia sliced through three Verona players on a breakaway before coolly placing the ball into the back of the net.
That 2-0 cushion held up through halftime, and the rout was sealed after the break when Mattia Zaccagni—once a Verona player himself—slotted home in the 58th minute to make it 3-0. Late drama ensued just before the final whistle when Verona’s Ondrej Duda collected a second yellow card, forcing the home side to finish the match a man down.
With the resounding victory, Lazio climbed to fourth in the Serie A table, now sitting two points ahead of Juventus and 11 adrift of leaders Napoli. Meanwhile, Verona remain in dire straits, languishing in the relegation zone with 19 points—trailing safe-standing Como only by goal difference.
All told, it was the perfect response from a Lazio side eager to move past their wobbly form and bizarre off-pitch headlines—proof that, on the field at least, the Eagles are still very much soaring.
