Patric's Uncertain Future Spurs Lazio's Search For Defensive Solutions
According to Il Messaggero, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Lazio defender Patric. He returned to Formello yesterday but only trained in the gym. His recovery timeline is unclear, and surgery remains a possible option.
Despite undergoing treatment in Barcelona, Patric’s condition has not improved. His Achilles tendon continues to cause serious issues, keeping him sidelined for over a month. If surgery becomes necessary, it would end his season early, creating difficulties for Lazio, especially with their financial constraints for transfers.
The club are hoping to avoid surgery and are already exploring options for defensive reinforcements. Sporting director Fabiani is looking at players under 22 to avoid exceeding roster limits. Adding a new defender would be helpful, particularly with Gigot suspended for the upcoming match against Real Sociedad, leaving Gila and Romagnoli as the only available center-backs.
Coach Baroni is pushing for squad reinforcements to maintain competitiveness in all three competitions. If no transfers are made and Patric requires surgery, a backup plan could involve re-listing Hysaj and shifting Marusic to the center.
