[Official] Monza Secure Akpa-Akpro On Loan From Lazio Again
The Serie A January transfer window is now open, offering clubs the opportunity to reinforce their squads for the second half of the season. Starting on Thursday, January 2, the window will close at midnight on February 3.
Monza have kicked off the activity among top-flight teams by securing Jean-David Akpa Akpro on loan from Lazio for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. The Ivory Coast midfielder impressed during his previous loan spell with Monza in the 2023-24 season, prompting the club to bring him back to strengthen their midfield.
Akpa Akpro, 32, joined Lazio from Salernitana in the summer of 2020 but struggled to make an impact over two seasons. After loan stints at Empoli in 2022 and Monza last season, he returned to Lazio in the summer but was sidelined for the first half of the current season, excluded from both Serie A and Europa League squads.
Although listed as a loan, this move signals the end of Akpa Akpro’s time at Lazio, with his contract expiring in June. He will become a free agent at the season’s end, though he is expected to remain with Monza until 2026 if the club successfully avoids relegation.
