[Official] Lazio Cut Ties With Falconer After Social Media Scandal
Lazio announced on Monday that they have severed ties with their falconer following reports from local media that he had shared explicit images related to a penile implant on social media.
Juan Bernabe, responsible for managing the club's eagle mascot, Olympia, was dismissed after Lazio became aware of the controversial content posted on his social media accounts.
The club released a statement confirming the immediate termination of Bernabe's contract, citing the severity of his actions. They expressed shock over the images and emphasized their commitment to upholding the club's values.
Bernabe, who has been training Olympia since the eagle was adopted by Lazio in 2010, played a central role in the pre-match tradition of the bird’s flight over the Olympic Stadium—a cherished moment for fans.
Lazio acknowledged the disappointment supporters might feel due to Olympia's absence but stated, "It has become impossible to associate our historical symbol with such an individual."
This is not Bernabe's first brush with controversy. In 2021, he was suspended by the club after being filmed making alleged fascist salutes and singing in praise of Benito Mussolini, the former Italian dictator.
