Lazzari Sidelined Again As Hysaj Steps Up To Bolster Lazio's Defence
Lazio face another injury setback as key full-back Manuel Lazzari has been ruled out following a fresh injury sustained during Friday's 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico.
The club confirmed that Lazzari, 31, who had only recently recovered from a hamstring injury that sidelined him against Atalanta, is now dealing with a knee problem. After making a brief appearance in the Derby della Capitale loss to Roma, he returned to the starting lineup in the match against Cesc Fabregas' Como but had to be substituted by Adam Marušić due to the new injury.
Lazio released an official statement revealing that Lazzari suffered a tear in the patellar tip of his right knee during the game against Como. He has begun specialized treatment at Clinica Villa Mafalda and will be monitored daily to assess his recovery progress. Initial estimates suggest he will be sidelined for at least a month.
In light of Lazzari's injury, Lazio's transfer plans have shifted. Elseid Hysaj, whose transfer to Lecce was reportedly in the works, will now remain with the team. Coach Marco Baroni has opted to reintegrate Hysaj into the squad as cover for Adam Marušić, rather than waiting for management to secure a replacement defender during the January transfer window.
According to Corriere dello Sport, this decision provides Hysaj a valuable opportunity to prove his worth and regain the trust of Lazio fans as he steps into a more prominent role in the team.
