Lazio’s Selection Crisis: 10 First Team Players Missing For Braga Showdown

January 30, 2025

Lazio will reportedly be without 10 key players when they travel to Portugal for their final Europa League group stage match against Braga. Despite already securing a spot in the last 16 after their victory over Real Sociedad, Marco Baroni’s squad faces a selection dilemma as they aim to finish at the top of the 36-team group.

The Biancoceleste have been in strong form throughout the competition, winning six of their seven matches so far. However, they will be missing several players for their upcoming clash. Nicolo Rovella and captain Mattia Zaccagni are both suspended after accumulating their third yellow cards of the tournament.

Additionally, Toma Basic, Elseid Hysaj, and Gaetano Castrovilli were not registered in Lazio’s Europa League squad and are therefore unavailable. The same applies to recent signing Arijon Ibrahimovic, though he may be eligible for the youth list in the knockout stages.

Injury issues further complicate Lazio’s squad selection, with four players sidelined. Patric, who narrowly avoided surgery, is expected to return in a few weeks, along with Nuno Tavares, Manuel Lazzari, and Matias Vecino. With so many absences, Baroni will have to make significant adjustments to his lineup for the trip to Braga.
