Lazio’s January Midfield Hunt: Fazzini Tops The List As Elmas Emerges As An Alternative
The January transfer window is underway, and Lazio are keen to strengthen their midfield options for coach Baroni. Their top target in recent days has been Empoli’s Jacopo Fazzini, though negotiations for his signature have yet to gain traction. According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, however, there is another name catching the Biancoceleste’s eye—along with that of other clubs: Eljif Elmas. The former Napoli midfielder is currently at Leipzig, where he is struggling to secure game time. The North Macedonian could therefore emerge as a serious option for a future deal.
Elmas first made his mark in Italian football during his time at Napoli. He joined the Partenopei in 2019 and was part of the side that clinched the Scudetto under Luciano Spalletti in the 2022/23 season. Although not a regular starter, the 25-year-old was highly valued for his versatility and knack for scoring crucial goals.
Nonetheless, Lazio’s squad are already crowded. To add another player over the age of 22, the club would need to offload one of their current members, which explains their preference for a younger talent. Despite the interest in Elmas, Jacopo Fazzini of Empoli remains the leading name on Angelo Fabiani’s shortlist.
