Lazio Stand Firm: Mario Gila Off-Limits Amid Interest from Inter, Juventus, and Real Madrid
Lazio have reportedly shut down any interest from Inter Milan and Juventus in their key defender, Mario Gila. The club from the Italian capital has made it clear that they have no intention of letting go of the 24-year-old player.
Lazio signed Gila from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 for a modest fee of €6 million, with the Spanish club retaining 50% of any future transfer fee. Recently, Real Madrid have shown interest in re-signing their former defender, impressed by his strong performances this season. Meanwhile, Inter and Juventus have also entered the race for Gila as they look to bolster their defenses amid ongoing injury issues. Both Serie A giants are drawn to the Spaniard’s consistency and reliability, which have made him a standout player for Lazio.
Despite the growing interest, La Lazio Siamo Noi reports that Lazio have firmly stated Gila is not for sale. The Biancoceleste are determined to hold onto the center-back, with coach Marco Baroni considering him an essential part of the team. Baroni has frequently praised Gila’s talent, entrusting him with a starting role in the defense.
Gila, who was born in Barcelona, has thrived under Baroni’s leadership this season after struggling to secure playing time under former coach Maurizio Sarri. With his contract running until June 2027, Lazio are looking to extend his stay and ensure he remains a cornerstone of their defense for the long term.
