Baroni: "I’m Proud Of These Players. They Stayed Strong, Even When We Were Down To Just A Few Healthy Bodies In Training. You’ve Seen It—We Play With Joy And Enthusiasm, And That Truly Makes Me Happy."

Lazio delivered an impressive performance at the Bentegodi, confidently defeating Verona and delighting fans. After the match, Biancoceleste head coach Marco Baroni addressed the media from inside the stadium, emphasizing the unity and resilience of his squad during a period disrupted by injuries and limited training options.

"I’m proud of these players," Baroni said. "They stayed strong, even when we were down to just a few healthy bodies in training. Managing these circumstances wasn’t simple, but everyone stayed focused and pushed through."

Baroni highlighted the significance of having certain players back in action, noting how someone like Vecino—whom he described as “outstanding”—helps balance the team, especially if they switch to a 4-3-3 formation.

"We have alternatives as well. I can’t wait to have Vecino back, because he’s vital for us. Alongside Dele-Bashiru, he lets us switch to a 4-3-3 without losing any effectiveness. This team has the quality to keep attacking and working hard; it needs to play this kind of football. You’ve seen it—we play with joy and enthusiasm, and that truly makes me happy."

He also reflected on his past with Verona, expressing that he gave his all during a difficult season and agreed with the club to move on once he’d used up all his energy. He believes Verona, led by Zanetti, has what it takes to navigate their own challenges.

"I gave my all at Verona, and the club knows it. We spoke for a couple of hours, and they realized I had nothing left to give. After a challenging year, I left knowing I’d done everything possible. Zanetti is doing a great job, and he has the tools to handle this tough league.”

Rather than dwelling on the standings, Baroni’s primary concern is regaining fitness and preparing for an important clash against Real Sociedad—a formidable opponent—while coping with suspensions and injuries in defense.

"Regarding our position in the standings, I’m really focused on the work and growth we need. It’s been a long week, but we’ve managed to recover key players. Now we’re regaining energy for an important match against Real Sociedad, a formidable, high-level opponent. We’ll be somewhat limited in defense due to two suspensions and a few injuries, but we must make the game ours."

Discussing the transfer market, Baroni stressed the importance of caution and the need to focus on improving the existing squad. He acknowledged key absences like Pedro and Noslin, both still recovering, and noted Dia wasn’t fully fit following international duty.

"We’ve been dealing with a shortage of players. We lost Pedro, who’s missed several key matches, and Noslin is also not fully fit—I chose not to risk him today, but he’s on the mend. Dia wasn’t at his best after returning from national duty, either. If they’re available, I’ll certainly play them, but managing everyone’s energy isn’t straightforward."

The coach reserved particular praise for his new young player Arijon Ibrahimovic, calling him “very promising”. Baroni hopes the young talent will grow into a pivotal part of the team.

"Ibrahimovic? He’s young and talented, with key qualities. I want to give him a specific role; in my view, he should operate in the center—either as an attacking midfielder or a creative option. We discussed what he’s missing, and I asked him to share his thoughts. I expect a lot from him in training because he can really contribute to the team."

Ultimately, Baroni’s message was clear: Lazio’s success stems from hard work, an upbeat attitude, and a dedication to attacking football, despite obstacles. If they maintain this spirit, the Biancocelesti look set to continue their strong run both domestically and in Europe.
