Lazio Target Bayern’s Mathys Tel For January Loan Move
Lazio are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel and have added the 19-year-old to their list of targets for the January transfer window. Marco Baroni's team is expected to be active in the upcoming market.
Tel, who began his career in France before joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, has struggled for playing time this season. Although he initially broke into Bayern's first team under Thomas Tuchel, his opportunities have diminished under Vincent Kompany. Competing with players like Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, Thomas Müller, and Michael Olise, Tel has made just eight appearances in all competitions, starting only three matches.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Tel is considering a move away from Bayern in January to secure more regular playing time. While the club is reluctant to sell him—having recently extended his contract until 2029—a loan deal is reportedly being explored by his agent.
The report highlights Lazio's keen interest in the French U21 international, who could be a valuable addition to their squad. Due to his age, Tel could be registered in Lazio's U22 roster, allowing them to maintain their current senior squad list.
Primarily a right-footed left winger, Tel can also operate on the right flank—a versatility that could address inconsistencies in performances from Gustav Isaksen and Loum Tchaouna. For now, Lazio are closely monitoring his situation as they evaluate the possibility of securing the talented young winger.
