Lazio Set To Finalize January Departures As Diego Gonzalez Nears Move To Atlas
Lazio's main focus for the upcoming January transfer window is to offload surplus players. These include individuals who have been training at Formello for months but remain ineligible to play under Marco Baroni, as they are not listed for Serie A or Coppa Italia competitions.
Among these players is Jean Daniel Akpa Akpro, who is now close to joining Monza. Another name is Diego Gonzalez, a Paraguayan winger born in 2003. According to Il Messaggero, Gonzalez is set to leave Lazio after joining the club in January 2023, a transfer that primarily benefited the Primavera team. Despite making 32 appearances and scoring 19 goals in the youth league, he has yet to debut for the senior team.
Gonzalez’s departure seems imminent, with reports from journalist César Luis Merlo indicating that he is on the verge of joining Atlas in Mexico. The deal is reportedly finalized, involving a loan with an option to buy. After a promising stint with Lazio's youth squad, the Paraguayan is now poised to return to Mexico to continue his career.
