Lazio Midfielder Akpa Akpro Linked With January Moves To Monza And Salernitana
Lazio midfielder Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro, currently on the fringes of the squad, is reportedly attracting interest from former clubs Salernitana and Monza. The 32-year-old has struggled to secure a regular spot in Lazio's lineup since joining the club four years ago.
Akpa Akpro began his career at Toulouse but was released in 2017. In early 2018, he joined Salernitana, then owned by Lazio president Claudio Lotito. After two years with the Salerno-based side, he signed with Lazio in the summer of 2020 but failed to establish himself as a key player. Over the past two seasons, the Ivory Coast international was loaned out to Empoli and Monza but returned to Lazio this summer without finding a new club. Under coach Marco Baroni, Akpa Akpro remains sidelined, excluded from both Serie A and Europa League action.
Now, reports suggest he could leave in the January transfer window. According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Monza, managed by Alessandro Nesta, is interested in bringing him back to the U-Power Stadium to strengthen their squad as they fight to climb out of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Tuttosalernitana notes that Salernitana, currently struggling at the bottom of Serie B and at risk of relegation to Serie C, may also be considering a move for the veteran midfielder.
With his contract at Lazio set to expire in June, Akpa Akpro is likely to leave on a free transfer.
