[Serie A] Monza - Lazio = 0 - 1
Mattia Zaccagni delivered a crucial goal to secure Lazio's Serie A victory over Monza on Sunday evening (10/11), bolstering their impressive run in both Italian and European competitions.
This win marked Lazio’s 10th victory in their last 11 matches across all competitions. Zaccagni’s goal was the difference-maker in this closely contested game, which saw Marco Baroni adjust Lazio’s usual 4-2-3-1 formation to a 4-3-3, featuring Boulaye Dia up front, with Pedro and Zaccagni as the wingers, and Matias Vecino joining Nicolo Rovella and Matteo Guendouzi in midfield.
Both teams launched early attacks, but Lazio appeared more threatening. Their best chance came in the 33rd minute when Nuno Tavares set up Zaccagni in the box. Zaccagni cut in from the right and aimed low, but his shot hit the crossbar. Minutes later, he made amends. After a strong run from Guendouzi, the ball reached Zaccagni on the left. Cutting inside, he curled a brilliant shot from the edge of the box, leaving goalkeeper Stefano Turati with no chance.
After halftime, Monza pressed harder, but Lazio remained poised to extend their lead. Turati’s sharp saves against Rovella's half-volley and Taty Castellanos's close-range attempt kept Monza in the game. In the final moments, Alessandro Nesta’s squad nearly equalized from a free-kick, but Gianluca Caprari's shot couldn’t break through Lazio’s defense.
The final whistle sealed Lazio’s narrow but valuable victory, putting them level on points with Atalanta and Fiorentina at 25, just one point behind Napoli. Meanwhile, pressure mounts on Monza's coach Alessandro Nesta, whose job is at risk if the team’s form does not improve.
