Pedro's Golden Season: Lazio's Veteran Winger Shines Among Europe's Elite Over 35
Lazio forward Pedro is currently ranked as the second-highest scorer among players over 35 in Europe’s top five leagues this season. The veteran Spanish winger continues to be a key player in Marco Baroni's lineup.
While Lazio refreshed their squad over the summer, replacing experienced players like Ciro Immobile, Luis Alberto, and Felipe Anderson with younger talent, Pedro, a 2010 World Cup champion, stayed on at Formello. New coach Marco Baroni insisted on retaining him, a choice that’s proven beneficial.
In 12 appearances across all competitions, Pedro has delivered six goals and two assists, providing Lazio with a valuable offensive boost. Club president Claudio Lotito is reportedly eager to extend Pedro's contract, and Baroni is equally enthusiastic about keeping the seasoned star for another year.
The former Barcelona and Chelsea star has also displayed great adaptability in Lazio's 4-2-3-1 formation, excelling both as a winger and as an attacking midfielder. This versatility was evident in Lazio's recent game against Porto, where Pedro clinched a last-minute winner at the Stadio Olimpico.
That goal extended his strong Europa League record, marking his third consecutive European goal—a feat he hasn’t achieved since his Barcelona days in 2011.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Pedro’s impressive start to the season has placed him second among scorers over 35 in Europe’s major leagues. He has netted six goals this season, second only to Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, who has scored 19 times across all competitions since the season began.
While Lewandowski’s tally is formidable, Pedro’s achievements are notable, especially as he’s not a traditional striker. His goal count has surpassed that of Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, highlighting his remarkable form.
