[Official] Lazio Midfielder Earns First Senior Italy Call-Up After Standout Season Start
Lazio midfielder Nicolo Rovella has earned his first call-up to Italy’s senior squad, following an impressive start to the season that caught the attention of coach Luciano Spalletti.
Rovella has previously represented Italy at every youth level from U-17 to U-21 but has yet to make an appearance for the senior team. Since joining Lazio, however, he has quickly become a crucial figure in Marco Baroni’s midfield. Despite registering just one assist in 14 appearances, Rovella has been praised for his effective role in linking play across the field.
Spalletti selected Rovella for his 23-man squad ahead of Italy’s upcoming Nations League matches: an away game against Belgium on Thursday, November 14, and a home fixture against France at the San Siro three days later, marking Italy’s final two games of the group stage.
Meanwhile, Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni and goalkeeper Ivan Provedel did not make the squad.
