Guendouzi: "We Can Make Our Mark In The Europa League And The Coppa Italia. I’m Determined To Win Trophies With Lazio This Season Or Next."
Lazio midfielder and French international Matteo Guendouzi has emphasized that securing a top-four finish in Serie A for the 2024/25 season is the team's primary goal, as he expresses his ambition to win trophies with the Capital Eagles within the next 18 months.
The 25-year-old, who recently played the full match in France's 3-1 victory over Italy at San Siro, outlined Lazio's objectives for the season. Marco Baroni's team is currently among four sides just one point off the top of the Serie A table. Despite their strong position, Guendouzi insists that earning a spot in next season’s Champions League remains the ultimate target.
"We need to stay grounded because it’s still early in the season, and we’re facing tough opponents in both Serie A and Europe," Guendouzi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"It’s better to avoid setting big goals right now, but I genuinely want us back in the Champions League. Finishing in the top four is crucial. It won’t be easy, as there are seven or eight teams in Italy chasing the same goal, but we’ve proven we can compete."
While Guendouzi isn't focusing on the Scudetto race, he sees the Europa League and Coppa Italia as achievable targets for Lazio. Drawing on his experiences with Arsenal, where he won the FA Cup and reached the Europa League final, he aims to bring silverware to the Biancocelesti.
"We can make our mark in the Europa League and the Coppa Italia. At Arsenal, I won the FA Cup and reached the Europa League final—both were incredible experiences. I’m determined to win trophies with Lazio this season or next," he added.
