Lazio Eye January Move For Napoli's Folorunsho As Transfer Interest Resurfaces
Lazio have reportedly reignited their interest in Napoli’s outcast midfielder, Michael Folorunsho, and are aiming to sign him in the upcoming January transfer window.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who previously spent time with Lazio’s youth academy between 2014 and 2017 before being released, joined Napoli in 2019 but has often been loaned to other clubs. Last season, he had a successful spell at Hellas Verona under coach Marco Baroni.
Lazio are keen to bring back their former academy player and reunite him with Baroni, who coached him at both Reggina and Verona. Napoli, on the other hand, are also open to letting Folorunsho leave after he failed to impress Antonio Conte during preseason. The summer transfer for Folorunsho fell through due to disagreements between the two clubs over the transfer terms.
However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lazio may make another attempt to sign him in January. The Biancoceleste are interested in a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season. Napoli are pushing for a mandatory purchase clause, and Lazio may agree to this.
Lazio also won’t face any registration issues, as Folorunsho is a product of their academy. Although Conte included him in the squad after the summer window closed, Folorunsho has only made a brief appearance so far, coming on as a substitute for 17 minutes in a goalless draw against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.
