Dia Becomes The Current Top-Scoring African Player In Europe's Top 5 Leagues

October 03, 2024

Lazio’s summer signing, Boulaye Dia, has been in excellent form, becoming a key goal scorer for the club and even surpassing Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the list of African players with the most goals in Europe’s top five leagues.

Dia, a 27-year-old striker, joined Lazio from Salernitana in August. Initially expected to be a backup to Taty Castellanos, coach Marco Baroni found room for both players in his 4-2-3-1 system, positioning the Senegalese forward just behind the Argentine striker.

Whether playing as a second striker or leading the line, Dia has impressed with his goal-scoring ability. He has netted three goals in four Serie A appearances and scored twice in a Europa League match. Additionally, before his transfer, Dia contributed two goals in the Coppa Italia for Salernitana this season.

According to LaLazioSiamoNoi, Dia’s seven goals in seven matches across all competitions make him the highest-scoring African player in Europe’s top leagues this season. The report notes that he has overtaken Salah, who has also had a productive season with six goals and five assists in nine games for Liverpool under new manager Arne Slot. With this strong form, all eyes will be on Dia to see if he can maintain his scoring streak for Lazio.
