Baroni Considers Gila As Backup For Marusic At Right-Back Due To Lazzari's Injury

Lazio coach Marco Baroni is reportedly considering using Spanish defender Mario Gila as a temporary right-back to cover for the injured Manuel Lazzari, who will be sidelined for several weeks.

With Lazzari confirmed to have a medium muscle injury in his left thigh and expected to be out for about a month, Adam Marusic is currently the only available right-back in the team’s four-man defense. While recalling Elseid Hysaj could be an option, it remains risky, and Lazzari won’t be available until January.

As reported by Il Corriere dello Sport, Baroni is exploring a new solution by moving Mario Gila to the right-back position. Although Gila, 24, is primarily a center-back, Lazio has enough depth in central defense with Samuel Gigot now recovered from injury, alongside Alessio Romagnoli and Patric.

This depth allows Baroni to temporarily shift Gila to the right, rotating him with Marusic, who typically starts in the Europa League and serves as Lazzari’s backup in Serie A. However, it remains to be seen if Gila’s performances in training will convince Baroni to trust him in the right-back role for the upcoming matches.
