AC Milan Target Lazio's Mario Gila To Bolster Defense Ahead Of January Window
AC Milan have set their sights on Lazio defender Mario Gila for the upcoming January 2025 transfer window.
The club are in need of defensive reinforcements, as several current defenders may be leaving. Mario Gila is seen as a strong candidate to strengthen AC Milan's defense.
One player who might depart is Davide Calabria. Although the 27-year-old has expressed his desire to remain with Milan, he has requested a salary increase through his agent—from €2 million to €2.5 million per season. However, management has decided to hold off on negotiations, waiting to see more consistency in his performances.
Additionally, center-backs Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori are attracting interest from Premier League clubs, with Newcastle United showing particular interest.
Mario Gila, therefore, has become a key target for AC Milan. He has established himself as a regular starter at Lazio under coach Marco Baroni, making nine appearances this season (638 minutes) despite missing three games due to injury. The 24-year-old, primarily a center-back but also capable of playing right-back, joined Lazio from Real Madrid in 2022 and is under contract until 2027.
