[Official] Guendouzi Has Been Called Up To French National Team Ahead Of Their Match Against Italy
The French national team are reportedly facing an injury crisis ahead of their Friday (06/09) match against Italy at the Stade de France, prompting a last-minute call-up for Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.
As reported by Football-Italia, Guendouzi has been brought in to bolster the French squad for their upcoming Nations League match against Italy. Coach Didier Deschamps and Les Bleus are grappling with several injuries as the tournament approaches.
Wesley Fofana, initially selected for the matches against Italy and Belgium, has withdrawn and been replaced by Sevilla's Loic Bade. Additionally, Ferland Mendy has pulled out due to a right foot issue, with Aston Villa's Lucas Digne stepping in as his replacement.
Most recently, Aurelien Tchouameni withdrew from the squad after sustaining a left foot injury, leading Deschamps to include Guendouzi in the team. The Lazio midfielder has impressed since joining the club last season, becoming a regular starter this year.
In related news, Real Madrid reportedly requested that Kylian Mbappe be rested during this international break, but he was still included in the French squad.
