Lotito: "We’ve Built A New Squad Suited To Modern Football. Be Patient. We’ve Assembled A Group With Physical Strength, Character, And Technical Skills."
President Lotito returned from Cortina feeling confident and assured about Lazio's strength under coach Marco Baroni. In an interview with Il Messaggero, he expressed his belief in the team's potential, urging patience. "We’ve built a new squad suited to modern football. Be patient," he said. He also addressed the recent transfers, adding, "We have a strong and cohesive group, with many players called up by their national teams. I’m convinced our new signings are also of high quality."
Lotito emphasized that the team is now more relaxed and just needs time to adapt to Baroni’s style. "We’ve assembled a group with physical strength, character, and technical skills. We can even afford to rest players like Gila ahead of the Milan match." For Lotito, Lazio’s real strength lies in the collective effort, not individual performances: "There are no prima donnas here. Everyone must give their best with humility. The presumptuous attitudes are gone, and now everyone is serving the team."
One significant issue from the recent transfer window was the last-minute departure of Danilo Cataldi without a replacement. Addressing the rumors surrounding this, Lotito clarified the situation: "Cataldi? I didn’t push him away. Fiorentina wanted him, and they got him." While Lotito didn’t elaborate further, his comments shed light on why Lazio let go of such a key player, a symbol of the team, without securing a replacement for coach Baroni.
The exclusion of Gaetano Castrovilli from Lazio’s Europa League squad has also been a hot topic recently. Castrovilli explained on Instagram that it was a decision made in agreement with the club. Lotito confirmed this in his interview, stating, "He spoke with Baroni, and they agreed on everything. We didn’t want to overburden a player who has struggled with injuries by making him play three games a week." Lotito added, "You’ll see Castrovilli in action soon. We brought him here to add the quality that many believe we lack."
