Lazio Begin Contract Extension Talks For Adam Marušić Amid Interest From Napoli And Other Clubs
Lazio have reportedly initiated the process of extending the contract of key defender Adam Marušić, who has attracted interest from Napoli. The Italian capital club is determined not to lose him.
Marušić, one of Lazio's longest-serving players following last summer's squad overhaul, joined the team in 2017. The 31-year-old Montenegrin defender primarily plays as a right-back but has also filled in at left-back, as seen in the first two matches of this season.
However, Marušić is in the final year of his contract, meaning Lazio risks losing him for free. According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio president Claudio Lotito has met with Marušić’s agent, Uroš Janković, to express a strong interest in keeping the veteran defender at Formello beyond this season.
Further discussions are expected in the coming weeks and months to finalize a new deal. Marušić currently earns €2.2 million annually.
The report also highlights interest from several clubs, including teams from Turkey and the Saudi Arabian Pro League, as well as Napoli, who are keen to add him to Antonio Conte's squad.
With Marušić in the final year of his contract, he is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in the winter transfer window. Despite this, sources suggest that the player wishes to end his career at Lazio.
