Isaksen: "It Would Be A Waste To Throw Away Everything I’ve Learned In A Year At Lazio And Start All Over Again Somewhere Else. I Believe I Have The Potential To Become An Important Player For The Club."
Lazio winger Gustav Isaksen has shared the key reason behind his decision to remain with the club instead of moving to Celtic or Feyenoord, who showed interest in signing him last summer.
Isaksen explained that he chose to stay with Lazio, rejecting offers from Celtic and Feyenoord, despite not being a regular starter for Marco Baroni. The Glasgow club had approached him late in August, but the 23-year-old decided against the move to continue his development in the Italian capital.
In an interview, the Danish winger said he didn’t want to abandon the progress he had made since joining Lazio. "It would be a waste to throw away everything I’ve learned in a year at Lazio and start all over again somewhere else. I told my agent that, despite the attractive offers, I was 99% sure I wanted to stay. I believe I have the potential to become an important player for the club," Isaksen told TV Midtvest.
In his first season at Lazio, Isaksen began to show promise under Maurizio Sarri, but his form dipped after Igor Tudor took over in March. Now, under Baroni, he feels more comfortable.
"I struggled a bit with the previous coach. We didn’t communicate well, and I wasn’t the type of player he wanted. It was frustrating because I felt I performed well. But since Baroni arrived, things have settled down, and I see good prospects with him," Isaksen added.
The Danish player now faces competition from Tijjani Noslin and Loum Tchaouna for a spot in Baroni’s starting lineup after solid performances against Udinese and Milan.
