Castrovilli: "The Decision Not To Participate In The Europa League Group Stage Is Part Of The Club’s Plan, And I Am Fully On Board With It. Forza Lazio!"
Lazio's new signing, Gaetano Castrovilli, has clarified why he was excluded from the squad for the 2024/25 Europa League. Contrary to speculation, the Italian midfielder assured that his absence was not due to any lingering physical issues.
It came as a surprise when Lazio left Castrovilli out of their Europa League roster, but the player recently shed light on the decision. He explained that it was a strategic choice made by both him and the club, despite rumors of injury.
The Aquile also omitted players like Elseid Hysaj, Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro, and Toma Basic, which wasn't unexpected. However, coach Marco Baroni faced a tough call between Castrovilli and veteran Pedro. Ultimately, Baroni opted for the experienced Spaniard, who had previously won the competition with Chelsea.
Castrovilli, a Euro 2020 winner, took to Instagram to address the situation, stating, "The decision not to participate in the Europa League group stage is part of the club’s plan, and I am fully on board with it. There are no physical complications on my end.
"This is going to be a long season, and my goal is to perform at my best throughout. I’m healthy, working hard every day, and supporting my teammates. Forza Lazio!"
After leaving Fiorentina last season following injury troubles, Castrovilli joined Lazio on a free transfer in July.
