Zaccagni: "I've Taken Over The Number From Luis And The Armband From Ciro. It's A Big Responsibility That I'm Ready To Shoulder, And I Believe I'll Manage It Well."
Mattia Zaccagni went through a summer filled with significant moments: scoring the key goal that helped Italy progress in the European Championship, celebrating the birth of his second child, Dea, and receiving the honor of wearing the number 10 jersey and captain's armband at Lazio. In an interview with Sky Sport, the Biancoceleste forward shared his thoughts on the importance and responsibility of these new roles:
"Wearing the captain's armband is both a great honor and a significant responsibility. I've taken over the number from Luis and the armband from Ciro, two players who have made huge contributions to this club, and their legacy will always be remembered."
Zaccagni added, "I chose the number 10 jersey to take on more responsibility, and then the coach and the club gave me the captain's armband, which makes me really happy. It's a big responsibility that I'm ready to shoulder, and I believe I'll manage it well. We've brought in some skilled and promising new players who, in my opinion, are ready to make a big impact. Among them, Dele-Bashiru has really stood out to me, and I believe he will do something special."
With the number 10 jersey, the highest salary, the captain's armband, and the role of penalty taker, Zaccagni has decided to fully embrace these responsibilities, stepping out of his comfort zone in search of greater recognition. This marks a stark contrast to last season, which was marred by an injury starting in January and ending with only 7 goals— a disappointing tally for Mattia. This year, he is determined to make up for lost ground and has already assured that the mistake at the Bluenergy Stadium was just a fluke.
