Lazio Now Priority On Sales To Make A Preparation For Serie A Registration
"Currently, the club is focused on sales; we are working towards this," said sporting director Angelo Fabiani in an exclusive interview. The priority is to streamline a roster that is too large, which is currently hindering new acquisitions. By the end of the transfer market, or even sooner for the provisional list, Lazio must submit to the League a squad of 25 Over-22 players for the next Serie A season. The situation differs for the Italian Cup, where only club membership is required. The regulation mandates that if the current situation persists, coach Marco Baroni will have to make tough decisions, potentially leaving some players out.
Baroni must select 17 Over-22 players, plus up to 4 homegrown players from the club's youth academy and another 4 who trained in an Italian youth academy. There is no limit on Under-22 players (born after January 1, 2002), who don't need to be listed. Lazio's current situation is precarious, with the roster full and no room for new additions unless more U-22s are brought in. The probable squad composition is as follows:
- Over-22: Mandas, Gila, Patric, Pellegrini, Nuno Tavares, Marusic, Hysaj, Guendouzi, Rovella, Vecino, Castrovilli, Dele-Bashiru, Isaksen, Noslin, Zaccagni, Pedro, Castellanos.
- Grown In The Club's Academy: Cataldi.
- Grown In An Italian Club's Academy: Provedel, Romagnoli, Casale, Lazzari.
- Under 22: Furlanetto, Renzetti, Milani, Sana Fernandes, Tchaouna, Cancellieri, Diego Gonzalez (plus other youth sector players).
Lazio are therefore compelled to make some sales. This need arises due to the 'graduation' of Isaksen, Rovella, and Mandas from the Under-22 category. Unless players developed in the Biancoceleste academy are signed (three spots are available), the club must make room among the 17 Over-22s for potential new entries. Hysaj appears to be the primary candidate for departure. The Albanian full-back, with the arrival of Nuno Tavares and the presence of Pellegrini, might be next to leave. His exit would allow Lazio to engage in the incoming market and finalize a squad currently overloaded with players, including many redundancies. Players eligible for a spot next season have been listed, while those not part of Baroni's project are excluded. Here is the list of players currently off the roster:
Currently Off The List: Basic, Fares, Andre Anderson, Akpa Akpro.
