Gila Is Targeting A Return To Action For The Inter Match

May 02, 2024

Lazio's key defender, Mario Gila, sustained an injury during last Tuesday's game against Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg. The Spanish player aims to recover in time to face Inter Milan.

The 23-year-old defender, along with Alessio Romagnoli and Nicolo Casale, started in defense for the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus. However, he had to be substituted by Patric in the second half due to an injury.

Reports from LaLazioSiamoNoi state that Gila suffered a muscle injury and is expected to be sidelined for around 20 days. This setback comes as a challenge for coach Igor Tudor, who has heavily relied on Gila since taking charge at Formello last month.

Tudor typically employs a three-man defense, but with Gila out, his defensive options are limited. The central defender for Biancoceleste is aiming to make a comeback in time for the Serie A match against Inter Milan.

Gila's injury, an adductor problem, caused him to miss Lazio's 1-0 Serie A victory against Hellas Verona last weekend. He will also be absent for their upcoming game against Monza this weekend and the home match against Empoli on 12 May.

Additional updates from Il Corriere dello Sport indicate that Gila is working hard on his recovery to rejoin The Aquile for their clash against Inter. The match will feature celebrations for Inter as they receive the Italian champions' trophy.

Upon his transfer to Lazio from Real Madrid in 2022, Gila initially experienced limited playing time during Maurizio Sarri's tenure. However, towards the conclusion of Sarri's tenure and continuing under Igor Tudor's management, Gila evolved into a regular starter.

Lazio's focus is now on their upcoming match against the reigning Scudetto champions, crucial for their bid to secure a spot in European competition next season. Currently placed seventh in Serie A, they trail city rivals Roma by four points, with Roma occupying fourth place in the standings.
