Sarri: "I'm Sorry We Couldn't Finished It, We Couldn't Take Advantage Of The Opportunities We Had. We Should Be Able To Win 3-1 In A Game Like This."
Despite another disappointing result for Lazio, Maurizio Sarri remained optimistic as his team surrendered their lead and settled for a 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona in the Serie A encounter.
In the past few weeks, Lazio has made strides towards establishing a sense of continuity, achieving a remarkable streak of three successive victories over Celtic, Cagliari, and Genoa. However, their encounter with Hellas Verona served as a stark reminder that they must continue to exert significant effort in order to regain consistent performance.
After the match concluded, the coach initiated a conversation about Lazio's 1-1 draw with Verona.
"There was only 12-13 minutes of numerical advantage, the game was played at a high level, and the result is disappointing. We didn't even concede a shot on goal because Ngonge wanted to put a cross on goal," Sarri remarked via DAZN.
"I'm sorry we couldn't finished it, we couldn't take advantage of the opportunities we had, but the team played well.”
Following that, he was questioned regarding the absence of something during this particular season.
"We didn't show any lack of defense, we didn't concede a goal after losing the last game. The management is calm, we have a lack of the ability to score goals like we had last year and we should be able to win 3-1 in a game like this," he said.
Commenting on the display of his team at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi, Sarri expressed his thoughts.
"I've observed several positive signs, the bitter end is still present, but I see a team with a positive attitude, proactive, and a team that hasn't conceded anything."
"We had to carefully assess the performance, and we apologized to the fans because there were numerous followers of Lazio who made their presence felt."
When questioned, Sarri was inquired whether his team suffered consequences for prioritizing their attention towards more formidable opponents.
"No, this match and Salernitana have nothing to do with it, we lost a goal from a player who wanted to cross it, the goal was accidental, the team didn't concede anything."
