Gila: "After Not Playing For A Long Time, It's Great To Be Able To Gain Confidence Again. Sarri Has Helped Me In Many Aspects."

After spending a long time on the bench, Mario Gila was overjoyed to be given the chance to start in Lazio's line-up once again, a trust that was bestowed upon him by Maurizio Sarri. It is worth noting that the 23-year-old Spanish defender was heavily rumored to leave Italy during the previous summer.

During the initial three months of the 2023/24 season, Gila was unable to make an appearance. However, he was finally allowed to play when Lazio suffered a 2-1 loss to Salernitana. After delivering a commendable performance during the 2-0 win against Celtic, Gila earned the trust of Sarri. This resulted in him being selected to play again during his team's victory over Cagliari on Saturday.

After coming back to the Lazio squad, the Spanish defender, who is 23 years of age, opened up about his emotions for the first time.

"After not playing for a long time, it's great to be able to gain confidence again, after months of hard work and good days and not so good, there is a moment where the light will return and I'm very happy to be able to take advantage of this opportunity," he said via LaLazioSiamoNoi.

He then spoke about how he felt after helping the Aquile advance to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

"We are delighted to have achieved this valuable goal. We produced an important performance against Celtic, full of character and courage. We were present in every moment of the match where in the league we were lacking," said the defender.

Next, the 23-year-old discussed his performances under Maurizio Sarri.

"Sarri has helped me in many aspects. He has helped me improve in many aspects, starting with tactics. He has helped me understand what I need to do in each moment of the game based on what happens in the 90 minutes, rather than on my own. ," he explained.

"Thanks to the coach and his whole staff, I feel that I have acquired the qualities that usually accompany maturity. At the moment I am working on improving my defensive skills, although I feel that I have the characteristics and can score some goals."
