Spalletti: "Immobile Will Be Captain Of Italy Until Euro 2024. A Captain, In My Opinion, Is Someone Who Ensures That He Is Respected In The Locker Room, Is Nice With Everyone, And Is Generous And Appreciated Even By His Opponents."
Under the leadership of Italian national team coach Luciano Spalletti, Ciro Immobile has been designated as the captain of the team. Nevertheless, Spalletti has indicated that this position is not necessarily permanent and could potentially be altered before the upcoming year.
Previously, the captain of the Italian national football team was Leonardo Bonucci. However, the new coach, Luciano Spalletti, did not include Bonucci in the team and made it clear that Bonucci would not be selected in the future. In addition, Spalletti confirmed that the role of captain has been given to Ciro Immobile.
"Immobile will be captain of Italy until Euro 2024, and then we'll see if we want to change something," stated the former Napoli coach, according to Football Italia.
"I don't like a system that automatically gives the captaincy to the player with the most caps. A captain, in my opinion, is someone who ensures that he is respected in the locker room, is nice with everyone, and is generous and appreciated even by his opponents."
