Despite Slipping Lately, Until Gameweeks 21 Lazio Still Better Than Last Year

February 08, 2023

Despite the number of missed opportunities and the number of 17 points that were wasted during favorable situations (9 of these occurred in 2023), the rank of Lazio is still respectable. The biancoceleste are fourth, one point behind Roma, and -4 away from second place Inter.

Encouraging statistics, even though, given the outcome, it was expected to have a higher number.  Losing points like the teams that are Sampdoria, Lecce, Empoli, Fiorentina, and Verona is unacceptable because the other teams, excluding Napoli, are underperforming too.

Despite this, the comparison with the previous year is positive and the eagles have more points than last season by 7.  At the time, the Aquile were sixth with 32 points, and the fourth-place team, Atalanta, was 10 points away.

Today's proceedings are different because of Napoli's boisterous journey, the penalty Juventus received, and Milan's nightmare performance. The only 9 points in the last 7 days have jeopardized a very high-level path that occurred before the World Cup break. In terms of the others, Napoli has a +13, Roma has a +8, Juventus has a +3 (not including the penalty), Udinese has a +6, Salernitana has a +4, and Torino has a +1. Milan was down by 10, Inter by a point of 6, and Atalanta by a point of 4.

Here is a complete list of the differences from a year ago:

Napoli +13

Roma +8

Lazio +7

Udinese +6

Salernitana +4

Juventus +3 (penalty excluded)

Torino +1

Bologna -1

Spezia -1

Empoli -2

Atalanta -4

Sassuolo -5

Inter -6

Fiorentina -8

Milan -10

Sampdoria -10

Verona -13

Lecce, Monza, and Cremonese were in Serie B
