Sarri: "Lecce Are A Good Team, They Always Play Well Against Top Teams. Typically The Second Half Of The Season Is More Difficult."
Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri stated that it is difficult to predict the team's response to Lecce after a six-week break caused by the 2022 World Cup. The two clubs will face each other in Serie A on Wednesday (04/01).
Lazio will travel to the Via Del Mare stadium to participate in their first match of the year against Lecce, which will take place this Wednesday.
"I'm standing in front of something I've never experienced before, similar to during the lockdown," Sarri said in his press conference as quoted by Football-Italia.
"It's difficult to forecast the response of the team after returning from a long hiatus from competition, other leagues have seen PSG and Tottenham lose and Chelsea has also struggled."
"Lecce are a good team, we have to respect them, they always play well against top teams."
Ciro Immobile had to overcome an injury before the World Cup break but is now healthy and ready to start against Marco Baroni's team.
"He didn't participate in the World Cup, so he trained for a long time. He's overcome his physical problems and appears to be in shape again,” explained the coach.
"We have an average of 2 points per game, and I think that's a lot, but for now, it doesn't matter." continued the Italian coach.
"We must maintain this level of performance, the team is feeling confident, typically the second half of the season is more difficult."
Biancoceleste is currently ranked fourth in the Serie A standings, has the same number of points as Inter, and is 11 points behind the leaders, Napoli. The Italian capital club has won nine of their 15 games, drawing three and losing three.
