Sarri: "Incorrect Tactics Aren't To Blame For This Defeat, Lazio Suffered From A Mentality Problem. We Are Still Below The Level We Thought We Were."
Maurizio Sarri acknowledged that the loss to Lecce in the Serie A match on Wednesday (04/01) was a warning for Lazio. The Italian coach stated that the team's issue was a lack of mental strength.
Ciro Immobile scored the first goal for Lazio in the match against Lecce at the Stadio Via del Mare early on, but the visitors were unable to maintain their lead.
The first goal for the host in the second half was scored by Gabriel Strefezza, followed by Lorenzo Colombo's goal, this led to a 2-1 that remained until the end of the match.
"It was a remarkable match because we played at a very high level for 30 minutes, we created numerous opportunities to score and left Lecce with few opportunities," Sarri said via DAZN.
"However, we completely lost our way after the break and it's easy to point to the physical aspect as the cause. But we abandoned this game and give the point to our opponent."
"Lazio suffered from a mentality problem and we managed to control it for most of the season. However, the problem reared again today. If we lose like this to them, then obviously we are still below the level we thought we were. Incorrect tactics aren't to blame for this defeat, it's about working the synergy with 25 heads."
Because of this loss made Lazio moved from fourth place in the Serie A league tables to fifth. Their position is taken by Inter Milan who at the same time won against Napoli.
