Di Napoli: "Lazio Is Looking For A Backup For Immobile, This Is Natural For Them To Approach Cheddira."
Bruno Di Napoli, the agent of Bari and Morocco, Walid Cheddira revealed that two Serie A clubs, Lazio and Napoli, have expressed interest in his client. Until now, Sarri's squad has lacked a backup for Ciro Immobile following the departure of Vedat Muriqi.
Walid Cheddira, a 24-year-old striker from Morocco, has demonstrated impressive proficiency this season for Serie B club Bari by contributing 14 goals and 5 assists in 15 matches in all competitions, as a result, he has been called up to represent his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He participated in two knockout rounds against Spain and Portugal that garnered him worldwide attention.
The player's agent, Bruno Di Napoli, discussed Cheddira's progression on 1 Station Radio.
"This player belongs to Bari, his origin is from Sanguistese, our thanks are due to the club, as well as the directors, who supported the player's potential." said the agent.
"Many clubs are interested in him because of his modern characteristic as a forward. We will discuss the matter with the club and President De Laurentiis, one step at a time you will achieve certain goals."
Di Napoli later confirmed that Napoli and Biancoceleste are both interested in signing the 24-year-old Moroccan forward
"Currently, he is a Bari player, I hope he can reach the world cup final with Morocco. They connected him to Napoli because of the shared ownership between the two clubs, however, we will discuss the proper course of action with Bari regarding Walid," he explained.
"We have a fortunate situation, but are growing, today Napoli is a top club that is competing for the Serie A title, we will determine the appropriate path."
"Lazio is looking for a backup for Immobile, this is natural for them to approach Cheddira. Our primary concern now is to focus on the World Cup and Bari, we can't get distracted."
Last summer, the Aquile sold backup striker Vedat Muriqi to RCD Mallorca. At the same time, the club was unable to sign a replacement. Immobile recently suffered a hamstring injury that proves that the club needs an additional striker. Additionally, recent performances by Matteo Cancellieri in attack appear to be ineffective.
