Sarri: "We Shouldn't Tell Him (Milinkovic-Savic) That He Is The Best Midfielder In Serie A. I Don't Want To Give Him Too Much Credit Because He Can Do Better."
Maurizio Sarri says Sergej Milinkovic-Savic can do better after helping Lazio beat Midtjylland last Thursday.
In the fifth round of the Europa League, Lazio played host to Midtjylland at the Stadio Olimpico, beating the Danish representative 2-1.
One of Lazio's winning goals that night came from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who happens to shine even more in the 2022/23 season.
Despite praising Milinkovic-Savic's performances earlier this season, head coach Maurizio Sarri is reluctant to over-praise the Serbian.
The coach doesn't want his midfielder to be swayed by praise and instead urged Milinkovic-Savic to do better in the future.
"We shouldn't tell him that," Sarri told Sky Sport Italia when asked if Milinkovic-Savic is the best midfielder in Serie A at the moment.
"We can imagine. But I don't want to give him too much credit because he can do better."
"He has extraordinary qualities and can do better," concluded Sarri.
From the Opta data page, Milinkovic-Savic has only lost to Kevin De Bruyne to become the midfielder with the most goals and assists in Europe's top competition.
In the 2022/23 season, Milinkovic-Savic also scored 5 goals and 7 assists in all competitions for Lazio.
As for Kevin De Bruyne, the Manchester City midfielder leads with a record two goals and 11 assists.
