Top 10 Goalkeepers With The Most Saves In Serie A, Provedel Is Among Them
Ivan Provedel, a surprise Lazio's regular, was also named in the top 10 goalkeepers with the most saves.
The goalkeeper role is undoubtedly the most delicate role on the field. Concentration must always be on alert, and even the smallest mistake can cause irreparable damage to yourself and your teammates. Those who stay between the posts are often abused and don't recognize enough importance when questioned. From this perspective, Serie A has always had very strong goalkeepers, historically and now. The case of Lazio last year was also interesting.
Lazio underwent a complete personnel change in that position for this season. From Strakosha and Reina, Lazio management decided to focus on two new players, Luis Maximiano and Ivan Provedel. The first was bought from Granada for 10m as their first choice, while the second was bought from Spezia, as a backup.
From the very first game, however, the roles have been reversed. The Portuguese was sent off a few minutes later in the opening game against Bologna, and in his place comes Provedel, and he has never left the field since. Surprisingly but not overly, Ivan Provedel became Lazio's number one.
Additionally, Provedel can boast of an excellent average so far, with numerous saves and a couple of clean sheets. As if that wasn't enough, the Friulian player is one of the top 10 goalkeepers with the most saves in the Italian league. The former Spezia goalkeeper made 21 crucial interventions to save Lazio.
In first place was Radu from Cremonese with 40 saves. Dragowski comes on second with 33 and Montipò with 29. The rankings are as follows:
1. Radu 40 (Cremonese)
2. Dragowski 33 (Spezia)
3. Montipò 29 (Udinese)
4. Audero 24 (Sampdoria)
4. Falcone 24 (Lecce)
4. Sepe 24 (Salernitana)
4. Skorupski 24 (Bologna)
8. Handanovic 23 (Inter)
9. Provedel 21 (Lazio)
9. Milinkovic-Savic 21 (Torino)
