Mancini Wants To Call Up Immobile For Nations League Games Against England And Hungary
Lazio striker Ciro Immobile will be called up by coach Roberto Mancini to bolster Italy's national team in Nations League games against England and Hungary during September's international break, according to reports.
Italy coach Roberto Mancini still believes in Lazio's star striker Ciro Immobile and will call on him to strengthen the Azzurri in the Nations League, according to reports. The 32-year-old has become one of the scapegoats for the Azzurri's failure to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar next November.
Many fans and observers were frustrated by his inability to replicate his impressive performances at the club level at the international level. Immobile's last goal for his country was against Switzerland in the Euro 2020 group stage.
LazioNews24 reports that Mancini will reportedly call up the Biancoceleste striker for the two Nations League games against England on September 23 and Hungary on September 26. The Aquile captain is expected to be sidelined by many after a disastrous World Cup qualifier, but for now, he remains a part of the Azzurri.
The striker has never been at his best for the national team, scoring just 15 goals in 55 appearances in all competitions. It's hard to imagine him being a key player in the big tournament his country will play in, Euro 2024. But he will certainly remain an important part of the squad in 2022/23 and for the next few seasons under Maurizio Sarri.
