Lazio Performance Comparison From Last Year After 5 Gameweeks
The championship's first five games have left Lazio with eight points in the standings. Considering that Inter and Napoli have already met, and the two away games are not as easy as Torino and Sampdoria, that's not a bad result.
Not even a newly promoted one (the first will be Cremonese in the seventh week), and this speaks volumes about the chances of Sarri's men getting back to the top. Of course, games have to be won, but in this mood, things seem to be better than last season.
A year ago Lazio achieved the same eight points in their first five games against Empoli, Spezia, Milan, Cagliari, and Torino. An objectively less tortuous calendar.
Those numbers are less reassuring no matter who the opponent is. Seven goals conceded compared to five this year. However, greater defensive strength resulted in less consistency in the attacking phase, with fewer than five goals scored (7 to 12).
Now, however, the team already seems to have a game identity, an aspect that last year in the first phase was under construction. So better results were expected this season than last year.
